Best Suited Style

Wanting to add some summer pieces to my wardrobe over the festive season, I enlisted the help of friend and stylist Vanessa from Your Style Guide. Her advice  was to find pieces from one of our favourite on-line boutiques (that I could pay off with Afterpay what with the all those other Christmas expenses) that would be flattering to my body shape.

See what we chose from Feather and Noise best suited to my pear-shaped curves…

“The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress”.  Hubert de Givenchy

Ok, so we all like shopping right… but the reality is we are all getting busy and with the convenience of online shopping stores, getting the latest trends or some wardrobe updates is as easy as a click of the button from the comfort of your own home, office, on the beach somewhere… but there are a few key things to online shopping and one is understanding your body shape.

Knowing your basic body shape and understanding the types of clothes that will accentuate your good features (and minimise your less than perfect bits!), means you’ll be able to dress in a way that suits you and makes you ooze confidence.

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of helping out Stephanie purchase some beautiful summer updates on-line at Feather and Noise. Now as we know Feather and Noise have a variety of clothes that come in a range of colours, styles and shapes that hug women’s bodies in all the right places.

Now, Stephanie and I share something… we both have pear-shaped bodies. Just like the fruit, our bodies have a relatively slimmer upper torso and bigger hips, waists and thighs. The key to dressing a pear body shape is to enhance and add volume (or the illusion of volume) to your upper body while emphasising your waist and un-emphasising your lower body to create a balanced, hourglass appearance.

So, what styles did we pick for Stephanie for her wardrobe as a fresh summer update and also highlight her fabulous assets?

Joelle Maxi – On sale for $25

This gorgeous wrap style maxi dress is a must for pears. The sleeves instantly add volume to the upper body and the wrap style creates the look of a higher waist and therefore accentuates your legs making them look like they go on for days. Style with sandals and a tote bag for an easy breezy summer day look. To add some evening pizzaz, pair this dress with some strappy heels and a clutch.

Adora (also available in Blue) and Tia

Unfortunately i missed out on the Tia dress in the above colour but have just ordered in a new colour-way orange/navy – YAY!

Both these dresses are absolute winners for a pear shaped body. Both the V Neck and button style on the top again, create the illusion of volume your top half of the body. The drop waist style on both these dresses skim over the thighs and finish at the knee which again can make your legs appear longer. These dresses are also easy to dress down or up depending on your day or night activities.

Jose Skirt (no longer available)

I am absolutely in love with this skirt and it suits nearly all body shapes. Whether you are a pear, column or hourglass, this skirt will hit your assets in all the right places. The style rule with wearing a flowy maxi skirt is to create a more balanced look with a fitted and/or tucked in top i.e. singlet, t-shirt or shirt. Pair your look with flat sandals, wedges, loafers or espadrilles and you have a winning outfit.

Remember, take your time when shopping online. Think about your body and what shapes, colours and styles suit you best. Don’t be afraid to seek advice on your body shape, believe me once you know, it will save you time and money the next time you shop.

Enjoy your curve flattering purchases Stephanie!
